Collection: Signature Woodturnings
Woodturning is the ancient craft of mounting a piece of wood on a rotating axis and removing material as it rotates. Traditionally only the most solid, flawless pieces of wood were used for turning. Now with the advent of modern materials, turning has been elevated to an art as opposed to an industrial process.
We look for pieces that have flaws, that show signs of spalting, that will stand out from the ordinary like highly figured burls or root balls. Once finished, those pieces that have knots or voids or even bark inclusions will show immense character and personality. Combined with the use of modern resins, it takes wood turned items into a new realm of artistic appreciation.
These bespoke pieces use a creative and artful layering of colorful iridescent, metallic, neon, glow-in-the-dark, thermochromic, and hypershift pigments and dyes to create a visual complement with the woods. Admire the beauty of the different tones and grain patterns. As it interacts with light, the combination of translucent and opaque materials creates a richness and depth that is not unlike glass.
The resins we use are not only a durable finish, but contain UV inhibitors to keep their color, and once fully cured are FDA Food Safe.
