A beautiful wood and resin bowl. The wind howls in the darkness as the sandstorm approaches over the dunes. You see the faint orange glow of the moonlight filtered through clouds of sand. Overhead the moonlight dances off the shimmering silver clouds. As you peer closer you can make out the faint twinkling of stars. This is Mohave At Midnight, Unique Originals latest Signature Woodturning.
Mohave At Midnight was created from a single piece of western red alder, where three main branches grew out from the main trunk. This is known as a ‘crotch’, and is excellent for woodturning. As the tree grows, wood pushes against wood and the grain starts to move and buckle in different directions. This creates chatoyance, where the wood shimmers in the light and looks like waves of liquid. The chatoyance increases the beauty and desirability of finished pieces.
Adding to the beauty of the wood is the mystical orange and white sandstorm swirls, giving depth and substance to the design. Topping the piece are the midnight blue and silver clouds with twinkling metallic hidden away.
This is a substantial piece and not thin and light like most of our other turnings. It allows only the brightest light to filter through, hence it’s homage to Midnight.
Mohave At Midnight will become the focal point of wherever it is displayed.
