Katanga – Wood and Resin Hollow Form
With a 37” circumference, this is the largest hollow form I’ve created yet. Meet Katanga. Made from stabilized, spalted, big leaf Maple with deep cobalt blue resin accenting the rim and the sides. This piece is named after the largest cobalt mining region in the world. There is so much character to this piece. Striations of deep black give way to deep blue and meld together with the natural figuring in the wood grain. Turning it slightly you view the radiant lines emanating from the center. Turning slightly more shows you layer upon layer of beautiful figuring. This gorgeous piece will be the centerpiece in any room. Standing almost 12” tall this piece started out at 45 lb. after being cast and before starting. Completed weight ended up being a little under 12 lb. after almost 100 hours of labor. The internal walls average 3/8” thick and has a resin finish on the inside. While the outside has an oil topcoat over resin.
Includes an embedded signature brass coin in the base engraved with the name of the piece, date, serial # and signature of the artist.
Dimensions: Height: 11.8”; Top Opening: 3.75”; Circumference. 37” at widest point; Width 6.5” at bottom; Weight: 11 lb 5 oz
