Sustainability Commitment

NO-WASTE WOODWORKING®

Our woods are all locally sourced from either distressed timber from self-fallen trees or harvested from diseased trees that would otherwise go to waste.  Our lumber is up-cycled, recycled or reclaimed boards. Choosing reclaimed wood means you’re essentially reusing or recycling lumber (often stronger, more durable wood that has withstood the test of time) instead of using new wood from a younger tree.  Even though today’s most common wood species are sustainably grown and harvested, using reclaimed or salvaged  materials (whether it is wood, metal or glass) has a far less environmental impact and is more sustainable. For example, because our reclaimed lumber is sourced locally, the wood does not have to be harvested, processed, shipped or handled multiple times, thereby decreasing and minimizing our carbon footprint.

Reclaimed wood is an excellent source of sustainable, green materials for decor furnishings and furniture  projects. Therefore, we do not use woods listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species or the CITES Appendices.

Our custom, build-to-order process enables us to use sustainably sourced woods with efficiency and no waste. Traditional woodworking generates waste such as end cuts, off-cuts, waste scraps, and shavings.  Utilizing  product diversity, combined with our thoughtful approach to quality, we're able to significantly reduce our wood waste to near zero.

  • In today's world, where everything is disposable, every act of sustainability you can perform is significant, so we design and build our items to last as long as possible.
  • We respect our natural resources by using them to their fullest extent. Our items are not mass produced, so we take care to build them as efficiently and economically sound as possible.
  • To use up the left overs, we design smaller items, like charcuterie boards, end grain cutting boards, small plates etc., that utilize a majority of the end cuts and scrap wood generated from our production.
  • The remaining smaller scraps are combined and used in making segmented bowls, platters, or vases using our wood turning process.
  • Our 100% wood sawdust and wood shavings are collected through an innovative dust collection system, and used as a component for garden compost. The compost is used to help grow fruits and vegetables, closing the loop and completing the cycle.
  • Even if you do not purchase from us, from whomever and where ever you purchase your wood products, please ask them if they follow the NO-WASTE WOODWORKING® Philosophy. Sustainability is important to all of us.
